The US Treasury Department is ready to remove the Russian aluminum producer Rusal from the sanctions list. This was stated by the Minister of Finance Steven Mnuchin, reports Reuters.

The minister specified that the Russian company had appealed to his department with a request to remove sanctions.

"The company appealed to us on some issues of exclusion from the list (from the list of specially appointed persons)," Mnuchin said.

"I will not say the exact proposals and where we are on them, but yes, if we can find an acceptable solution, this is our goal," the minister said.

He stressed that the United States does not want to take Rusal out of business, because it is important for the world aluminum market.

Earlier, the US Treasury announced the possibility of lifting sanctions from the Russian company Rusal and its subsidiaries, if the oligarch Oleg Deripaska sells his share.

In April, the former president of Rusal, Oleg Deripaska, and the companies controlled by him came under US sanctions. After that, the shares of "Rusal" on the stock exchange fell to a historic low. The company was warned about the risk of default.

Let's note that Rusal is a Russian aluminum company, one of the world's largest producers of primary aluminum and alumina. The total capacity of all aluminum smelters in the plant is 4.3 million tons, and the output of alumina is 11.5 million tons.
