Ukraine’s Sports Minister urges colleagues over world to boycott 2018 World Cup in Russia

Ihor Zhdanov, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine filed the letters to all ministers responsible for the sport of 35 countries participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He urged them to ignore it as
“I wrote letters to all ministers responsible for sports of the 35 countries which national teams will participate in the World Cup in Russia and urged them to ignore it. I appeal to my colleagues with a request to boycott these competitions at the political level show Putin a red card,” he said.

Moreover, Zhdanov added that Russia’s crimes need stronger and effective response by the international society.
“The crimes of Russia against Ukraine and democratic world order need stronger and effective response by the international society,” he claimed.
Earlier the UK, Australia
 and Iceland that are not in the EU announced the diplomatic boycott of the 2018 World Cup.

The humanitarian and human rights organizations that work in Syria urge to boycott 2018 FIFA World Cup. Moreover, Foreign Minister Boris Johnson added that the leading Russian officials and members of the royal family are not going to visit Russia for FIFA World Cup matches. Johnson also said that the government considers the option to ban the national football team from the competition.
As of June 7, more than 2.4 million tickets for the championship matches were sold. Almost 872 thousand tickets were purchased by fans from Russia, 88.8 thousand from the USA, 72.5 thousand from Brazil, 65.2 thousand from Colombia, 62.5 thousand from Germany, 60.3 thousand from Mexico, 54,000 from Argentina, 43,600 from Peru, 40,200 from China, 36,300 from Australia, and 32,300 from England.
