Ukraine, Russia's points 'too far from each other' in Normandy Four process, - Maas

German foreign minister Heiko Maas supported the deployment of UN peacekeeping mission in eastern Ukraine, Bild wrote.
The official noted that the beginning of the mission's deployment will be discussed at Normandy Four talks. According to him, the necessary conditions are the withdrawal of heavy weaponry and better humanitarian conditions.
'I am not having any illusions; resuming the talks in the Normandy Four shape will be tough; Ukraine and Russia's interests and views are too far - in many regards', Maas said.
However, the very fact of this resume after 16 months-long break, according to him, is a success.
According to Volodymyr Yelchenko, the permanent envoy of Ukraine in the UN, it is unlikely that UN member countries will be able to start working on the mandate of UN peacekeeping mission in Donbas until the middle of summer of 2018.
'I don't think we can expect the beginning of work on the mandate for this operation', he said.
The Ukrainian diplomat added that even if Russia agreed to cooperate, the Kremlin still would not recognize itself as a warring side, offering to negotiate with leaders of the self-proclaimed 'republics' in eastern Ukraine.
