G7 Summmit: leaders voice support of Ukraine

The leaders of the G7 stated that they would support Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, as it is stated in the joint communique published after the G7 Summit in Canada.
“We reiterate our condemnation of the illegal annexation of Crimea and reaffirm our enduring support for Ukrainian sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally-recognized borders,” the document says.

The G7 leaders added that they stand ready to aid Ukraine to implement its ambitious and necessary reform agenda.
“We recall that the continuation of sanctions is clearly linked to Russia’s failure to demonstrate complete implementation of its commitments in the Minsk Agreements and respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and we fully support the efforts within the Normandy Format and of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe for a solution to the conflict in Eastern Ukraine," the communique says.

“Should its actions so require, we also stand ready to take further restrictive measures in order to increase costs on Russia,” the leader of the G7 states noted.
Besides, the G7 leaders urged Russia “to cease its destabilizing behaviour to undermine democratic systems and its support of the Syrian regime”.
The leaders of G7 agreed to continue drawing Russia to solve the regional crises and global challenges.

“We remain committed to support Russian civil society and to engage and invest in people-to-people contact,” the document says.
As it was reported earlier, Trump accused Obama’s Administration of allowing Russia to annex Crimea and supported Russia’s return to the G8.

Earlier, the U.S. President supported Russia’s return to the group of the most influential states of the world before leaving to the G7 Summit on Friday.
The European members of the G7 are convinced that this is impossible until the Ukrainian situation is solved, as Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, said.
