Ukraine's Volodymyr Yelchenko elected Vice President of 73rd session of UN General Assembly

The UN General Assembly elected Volodymyr Yelchenko, Ukraine's permanent envoy in the UN, as the Vice President of the 73rd session of the Assembly. The press service of the UNGA reported this on Twitter.
"Ukraine is ready to actively contribute to the implementation of the UN General Assembly’s tasks on the whole range of issues, from maintenance of international peace and security to fulfillment of the goals of stable development and protection of human rights," Yelchenko said after the election, Ukrinform cited.
He also noted that the Ukrainian delegation to the United Nations during the next sessional year would actively support the proper organization and effective work of the session of the General Assembly.

The session will start working in September.
Yelchenko has been serving as Ukraine's permanent envoy in the UN since December 2015. He has also spoken on the behalf of Ukraine at the UN Security Council sessions since 2016. He is a former Ambassador of Ukraine to Russia from July 2010 until he was recalled for consultations in March 2014.

On 17 March 2014, during the 2014 Crimean crisis, Yelchenko was recalled from Moscow for consultations in regards to the situation with Crimea. Since then Ukraine’s highest diplomatic representation in Russia is its temporary charge d'affaires.
