Crimea-born Oleksandr Kolchenko who announced a hunger strike in the Russian penal colony, currently faces psychological pressure and blackmail, as the colony's administration is making him assume Russian citizenship. His mother Larysa Kolchenko told this Krym.Realii outlet.
'First, they tell him how bad it is living in Ukraine and how great it is in Russia; then, they openly blackmail him, telling him that he needs to assume the citizenship...And then they want him to put his signature in the Russian passport', she said.
According to her, the colony's administration counts on Kolchenko assuming the citizenship; in that case, Ukraine will not be able to do anything to release him.
The purpose of the hunger strike of Kolchenko is the requirement to release Ukrainian film director Oleg Sentsov. Sentsov, went on a hunger strike on May 14 and demanded to release all 64 Ukrainian political prisoners in Russia. Now Sentsov is receiving supportive therapy.
According to the lawyer Lepyokhin, Kolchenko announced a hunger strike on May 31 and he does not have any other requirements, except the liberation of Sentsov.
