Arkadiy Babchenko, the Russian reporter saved from the attempt on his life, told the Ukrainian press about that night, and specifically his part in the special operation by the SBU (Ukraine's state security service), which foresaw the imitation of his death.
According to his interview with BBC, the preparations for the said staging lasted for a month. He put on some make-up, and the make-up artist added some blood to make the 'murder' look realistic.
'The wife called the police and the ambulance. They arrived and took me away. The legend was I'm still alive', he said.
After the ambulance car departed, Babchenko was announced dead. Then, the transport took him to the morgue, where he still played dead.

'Then, they took me to a medic's room, where I resurrected, took off my T-shirt and washed my face. I turned on the TV and watched the news about my 'murder'. Then, they took me to a safe place. It all ended at 5 a.m.', he said.
In the frameworks of the operation by special forces, the Ukrainian side faked Babchenko's death in order to investigate assassination attempt, which has been actually planned and prepared beforehand.
Arkadiy Babchenko is the Russian journalist, war-time correspondent and the writer. He served with the Russian regular army, surviving the combat action in both Chechen wars (the 1990s and 2000). Later, he prepared a number of reports during the armed conflict in South Ossetia in 2008. Since 2012, the Russian government has been prosecuting him for critical reports against the incumbent authority.
In 2017, he and his family left Russia due to constant threats. Since August 2017, he lived in Kyiv, working as a TV host.
