Counter-intelligence of Ukraine's state security service, the SBU, prevented a terrorist act in Luhansk region, as a Ukrainian citizen, recruited by Russian special services, intended to assassinate a local judge. The SBU's press service reported that on Tuesday.
The investigation found out that the Russian special services recruited the Ukrainian citizen who was serving time in a jail in the occupied territory of Donbas. He was released upon agreeing to act as a spy and saboteur in Ukraine.
In March 2018, the man received a task to commit a terrorist act against a Ukrainian judge. He analyzed the situation, performed a check at the potential victim's residence and received the weaponry that he needed for the assassination.
The assailant was detained on the attempt to break into the judge's house. The murder was supposed to undermine the trust of local citizens for the law enforcers.
Acting as a spy, the malefactor also took photos and videos of an army base in Luhansk region.
The investigation is underway.
