In a tense meeting in early March with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, President Trump’s lawyers insisted that President Trump has no obligations to talk within this case.
As we reported earlier, Robert Mueller sent 40 questions to President Trump
in the frameworks of his investigation of Russia's interference in the US presidential election in 2016. The questions are related to Michael T. Flynn, the former national security adviser, other ones referred to Ukraine, to Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, asking what knowledge Mr Trump may have had about Mr Manafort's outreach to Russia.
These questions revolve around whether Mr. Trump tried to obstruct justice to protect Mr. Flynn from prosecution. His phone calls with Mr. Kislyak are at the heart of that inquiry.
