Armenian parliament didn't support Pashinyan's candidacy for prime minister

Armenian parliament they did not support the candidacy of the leader of protesters Nikol Pashinyan to the post of prime minister. This reports news.am.

According to the agency, 45 deputies out of 53 candidates voted for the sole candidate for the position, the leader of the opposition, the head of the faction Exit in the National Assembly Nikol Pashinyan.

56 deputies from the RPA faction voted against, two did not take part in the voting.

The faction of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, which has 58 deputy mandates, but refused to nominate its candidate, called Pashinyan's program unconvincing and blocked his election. In support of the opposition leader stayed the parliamentary factions  "Tsarukyan" bloc and the ARF, which once again left the ruling coalition and flocked to the opposition camp.

It is noted that in 7 days there will be a second attempt to elect a prime minister by the parliament, and if it does not succeed, the president will have to dissolve the parliament and within 30 to 45 days to schedule early elections.

With the current development of events, they will be held according to the old electoral code, which presupposes a vote on both national and territorial lists of candidates for deputies of political parties and their blocs.

Since April 13, rallies have been held in Yerevan. On April 23, Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan resigned, First Deputy Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan assumed the duties of the Prime Minister. Later in Armenia, one of the parties withdrew from the ruling coalition, but the protests of the opposition did not cease.
