Russian trolls try to undermine the US energy markets, - Congress

Russian trolls are actively trying to undermine the energy markets of the United States. This is stated in the March report of the committee of the US Congress House of Representatives, according to The Hill.

The report is focused on the activities of the so-called "troll factory" in St. Petersburg. It is this institution that is "at the forefront" of the harmful interference of Russians through cyberspace.

The document, in particular, notes that "Russia was actively involved in concerted efforts to undermine US energy markets and influence on domestic energy policy." At the same time it is indicated that the Russians tried to achieve this goal, including through American media platforms Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

At the same time, as American lawmakers emphasized, this is not Russia's first attempt to damage the energy industry in the West. In this regard, recall that in 2014, then-NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen drew attention to a coordinated campaign of Russians on disinformation, aimed against the extraction of shale gas in Europe. The aim of the propaganda efforts was to create an illusion for Europe regarding the need to continue purchasing natural gas in Russia.

We recall, the Pentagon noted an increase in the activity of Russian "trolls" in the US by 2000% after the air strike on Syria.
