Assad signs order depriving Syrian refugees of their property

Bashar al-Assad, the President of Syria has signed an order that deprives the refugees of the rights of their property. Suddeutsche Zeitung reported this on April 26.
According to the order, if the owners of the land plots do not come to the local authority bodies with the documents that confirm the ownership in 30 days, they will lose the rights for the property and the land plots will be transferred for the construction to the new owners.

Particularly, Public Works and Housing Minister Hussein Arnous is one of the first people who intend to distribute the land plots in Baba Amr region, Homs, number of regions of Aleppo and Harasta for the construction. All mentioned territories were the key regions of the rebels.
The representatives of the German government have already commented the situation, expressing their outrage over such situation. German’s Foreign Ministry claimed that the order is ‘ungrounded legislative norm that doubts the property rights of many Syrian refugees’. The German diplomats suppose that Assad tries to create the preponderance of his allies at the places and complicate the return of people who have already left the country.
‘We strongly urge the allies of the regime, first of all, Russia, to prevent the implementation of the law’, the Foreign Ministry claimed.

Also, official Berlin plans to begin the consultation with other EU countries to find the ways for the counteraction against Damascus’ actions. Moreover, it is planned to involve UN and Security Council in this issue.
At the moment, there are 5.1 million of the Syrian refugees in the world. 500, 000 of them are in Germany. The German authority counts that at least, part of them will return to Syria after the end of the combat actions.
