The situation between Gazprom and Naftogaz raises concerns about the reliability of gas supplies from Russia to Europe. This is mentioned in the statement of the European Comission, reports Interfax.

The European Commission urged the parties to find ways of cooperation in accordance with the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration.

"The commission was informed by the Ukrainian authorities about their concern with a possible emergency situation in the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS), which, according to the information currently available to the commission, is based on three elements," the European Commission said.

It is noted that low and unstable gas pressure when supplied to Ukraine for transit to the EU is not a new phenomenon, but problematic in connection with the cold.

"The lack of direct supplies from Gazprom to Naftogaz: it seems that Naftogaz and Gazprom failed to agree on terms of natural gas imports, despite the decision of the Stockholm Arbitration, which led to the refusal of gas supplies even for those prepaid by Naftogaz, In addition, "the increase in reverse flows from the EU in the shortest time is problematic now due to the tense situation in the spot markets (low temperatures throughout the EU) and the difficulties in the technical redistribution of flows within the GTS."

"Currently, the European Commission continues to clarify the facts with ENTSOG, but the European Commission's opinion is that this situation increases concerns not only about direct gas supplies to Ukraine, but also, possibly, for gas transit to the European Union. Thus, the European Commission calls on all parties that it They note that the European Commission is ready to regulate the tripartite process, which in the past has confirmed its effectiveness in situations of disagreement. In this regard, EC Vice President Maros Shefovich will call the energy ministers of Russia and Ukraine to assess the situation and agree on the next steps.

We recall, on February 28, the Stockholm Arbitration satisfied the demands of Naftogaz on the suit against Gazprom, according to which Gazprom must compensate 4.63 billion dollars for the shortage of gas for transit. Gazprom did not agree with this decision.

On March 1, Gazprom reported receipt of Naftogaz's advance payment for the resumption of gas supplies, and also that it returned money, saying that there is no agreed supplementary agreement to the current contract. In "Naftogaz" they called Gazprom's refusal to supply gas with a violation of the agreement and failure to comply with the arbitration award.

The next day, Naftogaz urged Ukrainians to lower the temperature in the premises by 1-2 degrees to save gas. And the Ministry of Energy transferred generating companies from gas to fuel, suspended the work of kindergartens, schools and universities, and recommended that the plan of action of production facilities to be revised to save gas resources.
