The Russian authorities are studying the possibility of denouncing the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and ending cooperation with the ECHR, RIA Novosti quoted sources in the relevant Russian departments.

"When considering complaints against Russia, the politicization of the position of the ECHR is increasing," they noted.

According to them, the arguments of the Russian side are not taken into account.

"Accordingly, the issue of the legitimacy of the election of these judges and the decisions they have taken regarding the Russian Federation remains open ... Thus, the state bodies of Russia are considering the possibility of adopting a decision on the denunciation of the ECHR, which will lead to our country's exit from the jurisdiction of the ECHR and the termination of Russia's membership in the Council of EuropeWe remind you that the Russian delegation in the PACE was deprived of a number of powers, including voting rights, in April 2014 because of the annexation of Crimea and aggression in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Then the Russian delegation ceased its work as a member of the Assembly in protest. Moscow reacted by saying that the current PACE regulations infringe upon the interests of the delegations of individual countries and allows the rest to take discriminatory decisions - for example, to deny voting rights, to be removed from participation in the governing bodies of the Assembly and various monitoring missions, as it was in the case with the Russian delegation.
