US State Department approves supply of missile defense systems to Poland

The US State Department approved the sale of anti-ballistic Patriot systems worth $ 10.5 billion to Poland, Reuters reports citing a Pentagon statement.

The delivery includes 208 Patriot missiles, 16 launch systems, four radars, control stations, and software equipment.

This deal will "allow Poland to conduct joint air exercises and anti-missile operations with NATO allies: the Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Greece, which also have Patriot missiles," the State Department spokesman said.
Earlier we reported that Polish leadership is going to deploy first Patriot missile systems from the U.S. within next two years on the territory of the country. Polskie Radio reported that citing Polish Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz.
According to the Minister, this is the earliest practicable date which results from negotiations of Poland with Raytheon company on equipment supplies. The head of Polish Defense Ministry also referred to the Narew program – supplies of the short-range air defense system, up to 25 km.
Apart from that, according to Macierewicz, the launch of the air defense system in the frameworks of Narew may be possible in 2021 – 2022, i.e. earlier than it was planned to.
