Poland urges Ukraine for active steps in terms of reconciliation

The Polish government expects more active steps from Ukraine, when it comes to historical reconciliation and dealing with the current manifestations of ethnic hatred. Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said this commenting on the recent statement released by Ukraine’s foreign ministry.
‘This statement claims there is no anti-Polish spirit in the Ukrainian society, which we definitely hail, but we expect solid steps to be made in terms of historical reconciliation. We take note of the separate incidents and certain individuals acting with hostility,’ he told the press in Lviv, western Ukraine.

The minister added that Poland ‘has been open to settling the bilateral issues with Ukraine for quite a while already – including solution of the current issues in Ukraine-Poland relations.’
Waszczykowski said Yad Vashem process, which was successfully implemented in Israel, could be a good example of a future mechanism of historical reconciliation for Ukraine and Poland. ‘If Ukraine makes more confident steps than just declarations and statements by the Foreign Ministry, we will, of course, remain open,’ the diplomat concluded.
