Ukrainian consul meets illegally judged Zeitullayev in Russia

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry arranged the meeting between Ukrainian consul and Ruslan], the Crimean Tatar political prisoner; it took place on November 1 in Russia, where Zeitullayev currently serves time.
‘Thanks to the efforts of our consuls, we managed to visit Zeitullayev in Bashkortostan (Russia). He did not complain about detention conditions. The visit lasted for about three hours… Currently, the main issue is his release and transfer to Ukraine,’ said Maryana Betsa, the Ministry’s spokeswoman.

In September 2016, North Caucasus military district court announced verdicts in cases of four Crimean Tatars - Ruslan Zeitullayev, Ferat Saifullayev, Rustem Vagitov and Nuri Primov. All four were detained the Russian-annexed Crimea under charges of ‘terrorism’ and alleged membership in Hizb-Ut Tahrir, the infamous terrorist organization. They were also accused of creating a cell of this organization in Crimea.
The Supreme Court of Russia vacated the sentence of Zeitullayev and ordered the retrial on December 27. The Prosecutor of Russian requested to17 years of imprisonment for Zeitullayev.
The North Caucasus military district court sentenced Zeitullayev to 12 years of imprisonment at the colony with the strict regime on April 26.
