According to the sources, there is no final decision for now; however, the military command considers taking away some of the vehicles stationed at Khmeymim air field. Some engineers and technical staff will go back home and continue to serve there. However, presidential secretary Dmitry Peskov said such decisions are never announced, and the Defense Ministry officially denied the information on possible cuts of the staff in Syria.

The Russian outlet added that the reason of taking the military back is the recent success of the Syrian army in the war with terrorists. Russian defense minister Sergei Shoigu repeatedly claimed that the Russian military campaign in Syria will soon be over.
Over 450,000 people perished and millions more became refugees during the ongoing military conflict in Syria, the UN says.
The Russian military campaign in Syria kicked off in 2015. The Russian combat aircraft lands strikes on emplacements of the armed opposition, supporting the government forces of Bashaar al-Assad. The U.S. and many Western governments accuse Assad of war crimes (attacks on civilian infrastructure, use of chemical weapons) and urge Russia to stop supporting him.
