Head of civil service diagnosed with cancer

Britain's top civil servant has been diagnosed with cancer but will carry on with his duties after undergoing treatment, it has been revealed.
Sir Jeremy Heywood, the Cabinet Secretary and head of the civil service, was told of his illness in June and has received therapy over the last few months.
He has served as the most senior policy adviser to both David Cameron and Theresa May since 2011, while he is also responsible for running the cabinet.In addition, from 2014, Sir Jeremy has overseen Whitehall and leads nearly half a million public servants as they deal with Britain's departure from the European Union.A statement from the Cabinet Office said: "Sir Jeremy Heywood, the Cabinet Secretary, was diagnosed with cancer in June.
"He underwent treatment over the summer and early autumn which went well."Throughout this period, with the full support of his doctors, Sir Jeremy has continued with his normal duties for the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and as head of the civil service."He remains totally focused on those duties and we will be making no further comment on this private matter."Sir Jeremy's €195,000 role has seen him billed as one of the most powerful people in the UK.
