Open sourceThe EU spotted more than 3 000 cases of the disinformation from the Russian mass media over the past two years. High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini claimed this as the press service of the EU reported.
‘It is important for us to analyze, predict and respond to the disinformation. That is why we create a first Task Force for Strategic Communications within the European External Action Service focusing on our Eastern partners and the Russian-speaking communities. The StratCom East Task Force has uncovered over 3.000 disinformation cases over the past two years’.
According to her, it is not enough only to resist the disinformation. Mogherini emphasized the importance that real news should cover the most broaden audience.
‘Reacting is very important, but it is even more crucial to make sure that the real news reaches the broadest possible audience, both inside and outside our Union. So our first duty is to talk about what we are doing, to explain with the maximum of transparency our policies, spread the real stories about the positive impact that our European action has on the lives of so many people’, she added.
The Bishop of Rome is also concerned on the issue of the fake news. He claimed that the aim of his speech at the next International Communication Day of the Roman Catholic Church will be ‘The truth will make us free. Fake news and journalism for peace’.
This issue sharpened in the process of annexation of Crimea by Russia and armed Donbas Conflict. The Joint Center for Control and Coordination reports on the fake news from the militants from time to time.
Moreover, Google already assumed the measures against such news. The company changed the algorithm to exclude the links to the fake and extremist news from the search results.
