Latvian officials called on players of military-related games to postpone their activity until the end of September, due to Russian-Belarusian military drills West-2017, according to BBC.
The government believes that such measures are sensible because of the threat of military provocations.
The geopolitical situation on the border between Russia and NATO remains tense, so any people in camouflage automatically bring “little green men” to locals’ minds, Karlis Serzants, Latvian MP told BBC Russia.
“In the neighbouring country, people in unmarked uniforms seized Crimea,” he said.
Latvian security police confirms: locals are genuinely worried when they see people in military uniforms.
“Security Police continuously receives and checks the information from the citizens about possible military activity, including information that people with military weapons in unmarked uniforms are gathering on Latvian territory,” the police told.
Latvian officials fear that in September, when Russia and Belarus are to  hold the exercise, including the activity near Latvian border, camouflaged people will cause even more uneasiness among the locals.
“Imagine that all of the locals know: West-2017 is happening on the other side of the border, around 100,000 soldiers are participating (the official data of Russian Ministry of Defense is 13,000). And all of a sudden there are people in the military uniform near the border,” Karlis Serzants added.
