US urges UN to tighten sanctions against DPRK

 AFP

The US authorities appealed to the UN Security Council with an call to vote for tougher sanctions against the DPRK on September 11. This is reported by the DW.

Thus, the permanent representative of the United States to the UN, Nikki Haley, actively advocated tightening sanctions in response to the last missile tests of Pyongyang, including an oil embargo and a ban on the export of textile products.

Also, the US proposes to freeze all foreign financial assets of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, prohibit him from traveling abroad and prohibit the employment of North Korean workers in other countries.

The publication notes that China and Russia, which have good-neighborly relations with the DPRK and who can block the resolution on new sanctions, have not yet expressed their support for new restrictions.

Earlier it was reported that South Korea feared that the DPRK could launch another missile in honor of the anniversary of the country's founding.

We recall that on September 3, North Korea announced the successful testing of the hydrogen bomb. The order to conduct the test was given by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The DPRK asserts that the test of the hydrogen warhead did not lead to a leakage of radiation or other negative effects on the environment.
