Pyongyang just lambastes Trump for being too much like ObamaNorth Korea in an unexpected turn has criticised U.S. President Donald Trump by saying he's too much like Barack Obama.

North Korea’s official state media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) compared President Donald Trump with his predecessor former President Barack Obama on Monday. The comparison was made in North Korea's first official comments on new Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's recent visit to Asia.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman slammed Trump for adopting the same policies, particularly regarding tougher economic sanctions, nevertheless.

“Tillerson admitted the failure of the U.S. efforts to denuclearize the DPRK for 20 years and end of Obama’s policy of ‘strategic patience’ during his recent tour. ... Now Tillerson is repeating what Obama touted ... until he left the White House,” KCNA said in the dispatch, according to the AP, citing an anonymous foreign ministry official.

The latest developments come amid heightened tensions in the region as Kim Jong Un's regime has been ramping up its nuclear program and testing ballistic missiles. The country’s aggressive posturing comes despite being banned by the United Nations from carrying out any missile or nuclear tests.

"The nuclear force of the DPRK is the treasured sword of justice and the most reliable war deterrence to defend the socialist motherland and the life of its people," the official reportedly said. "If the businessmen-turned-U.S. authorities thought that they would frighten the DPRK, they would soon know that their method would not work."
