Nigeria's president chairs first cabinet meeting since coming back

Nigeria's president chairs first cabinet meeting since coming backNigerian President Muhammadu Buhari chaired his first cabinet meeting on Wednesday since coming back from medical leave last week, Reuters reported.

Buhari has had no public appearances outside the presidential villa since coming back on Friday from London where he had been treated for seven weeks for an undisclosed illness.

Buhari called for two ministers for Christian and Muslim prayers before the national anthem was played at the start of the closed-door meeting, the usual practice before reporters were asked to leave the room.

Also it was reported that on Tuesday the president received a briefing from the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

But the CBN governor left the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja without speaking to State House correspondents. The Presidency did not release any statement on what transpired at the meeting.

The same day Buhari signed the instrument of ratification of the treaty on the establishment of the Abidjan-Lagos corridor. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, disclosed the information in a statement he posted on his Facebook page. The treaty is among the governments of Nigeria, the Republic of Benin, Cote D'Ivoire, Ghana and Togo.
