UN WFP needs $ 30m to feed 220 thousand people in war-torn Donbas

UN WFP needs $ 30m to feed 220 thousand people in war-torn DonbasThe World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations will continue in Donbas, in the frameworks of which 220 thousand people will receive food products.

This was reported by the press service of the United Nations.

“Many local residents cannot buy food and need help. Rising prices impact particularly painfully on people against the backdrop of unemployment. Many families are forced to find alternative means of survival that are sometimes risky because of economic instability,” program representative Dorte Ellehammer noted.

As part of the program, the WFP representatives will continue, primarily, to provide food packages to 70 thousand people who belong to the category of the most vulnerable people. It means the elderly people, families with one breadwinner, and people with chronic diseases and disabilities, according to her.

She also said that despite the fact that three years have already passed since the beginning of the conflict, - the situation remains very difficult.

“According to the experts, in general in the eastern regions of Ukraine approximately three million people need help,” the UN press service reports.

Around 30 million dollars are needed for the continuation of the work of the World Food Programme in Donbas until December 2017, according to the UN.

Earlier it was reported that UN Security Council adopted a resolution on the protection of critical infrastructure against terrorist threats.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister is convinced that the adopted resolution is the timely response from the international community to the new evolving terrorist threats.
