Nadiya Savchenko to start independent political career

Nadiya Savchenko to start independent political careerUkrainian parliamentarian Nadiya Savchenko is determined to start an independent political career but does not plan to leave the Batkivshchyna parliamentary faction to which she belongs now.

"I won't join any party. I am becoming an independent politician. I am opening my own foundation," Savchenko said on the Shuster Live television program on Friday evening.

She also revealed her plans to put together a political party.

"I will lead the Rukh [movement] as a party," she said.

"I am choosing to lead the Rukh together with you. But not the Rukh of new ideas that [former Odesa region Governor Mikheil] Saakashvili is setting up, and not the Rukh [the political party Popular Rukh of Ukraine] that Kryvenko and Kyshkar are representing in the Verkhovna Rada. It's a Rukh which I have become familiar with and which is a source of values that [...] have not been materialised and for which the Maidan was gathered," she said.

"The Popular Rukh of Ukraine is a party. But, apart from a party, this is also a public organisation. That is, I am for this public organisation," she said.

Savchenko reiterated that she is not planning to leave the Batkivshchyna faction in the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada.
