Ukrainian consul to visit journalist Suschenko at Russia prison on Oct 14

Ukrainian consul to visit journalist Suschenko at Russia prison on Oct 14Ukrainian consuls have managed to secure a meeting on October 14 with the Ukrinform journalist Roman Suschenko arrested in Russia, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said.

"We only secured a meeting for [October] 14, at two o'clock. Then we will know more about his condition," Klimkin told to 112 Ukraine TV on Sunday.

The journalist's lawyer Mark Feigin told Interfax earlier that a Ukrainian consul will visit Suschenko at the Lefortovo prison next week.

"As [Consul] Hennadiy Breskalenko told me, he has obtained an official confirmation of being permitted to meet with Roman Suschenko, which he intends to do next Friday," the lawyer said.

Suschenko has started receiving parcels at the prison, as well as money transfers to his account so he can buy food at a prison shop, Feigin said.

"The only problem now is the absence of clothing because his relatives apparently are wary of sending it personally but this problem is solvable within several days," the defence lawyer said.

On October 3 the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said that its officers in Moscow arrested Suschenko allegedly during a spy operation.

The Lefortovo court in Moscow placed Suschenko under a two-month arrest. His defence team has appealed against the arrest.

Kyiv called the arrest a provocation on trumped-up espionage charges.
