Chinese media are forbidden to promote "Western lifestyles"China has widen its censorship and started a crackdown on social and entertainment news reporting that lacks "positive energy," correct values, or high aesthetic value and promotes "Western lifestyles", Xinhua reported Monday.

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) in its official notice ordered all news platforms, including radio, television, and new media, to ensure their reports about the world of entertainment and celebrities comply with the Communist Partyís ideologies and adopt a positive tone.

The main restrictions come over content with improper jokes over traditional Chinese values and cultural classics. ďAdmiration for Western lifestylesĒ is also forbidden.

Media should also avoid putting stars, billionaires or Internet celebrities on pedestals. They should not sensationalize private affairs, relationships or family disputes.

In another censorship try a draft film law was revealed this week. A key focus in regulation falls on making sure that people working in film industry maintain professional ethics, strive for "excellence in both professional skills and moral integrity," and build a positive public image.

According to a SAPPRFT statement released Friday, the media watchdog is establishing a professional ethics committee, aiming to guide organizations and people in the media to practice core socialist values.
