Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Volodymyr Yelchenko has held an urgent briefing on the situation around Crimea after statements declared by Russian security forces and Russian President Vladimir Putin
, Hromadske TV has informed.
"The issue of the convening the UN Security Council is being considered ... As soon as it is needed, we will immediately do it," Hromadske quoted Yelchenko.
"We are ready for the convening of the Security Council even at night when it’s necessary,” Yelchenko said
The Ukrainian representative to the United Nations drew parallels between the current situation and that of August 2008, when Russia invaded Georgia.
According to Yelchenko, Putin
"The suggested meeting for September in the Norman format was a very useful idea," Yelchenko said.
