Ukraine filed complaints against EU General Court rulings in Yanukovych family lawsuits

Ukraine filed complaints against EU General Court rulings in Yanukovych family lawsuitsThe Ukrainian side has filed complaints against procedural rulings of the General Court of the EU in lawsuits filed by the family of former president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.

"On June 2, the legal adviser of Ukraine filed complaints against rulings of the General Court of the EU dated March 11, 2015, in cases Nos. T-346/14, T-347/14 and T-348/14. On June 7, the EU Court of Justice confirmed the receipt of such complaints," the official website of the Justice Ministry of Ukraine reported on Wednesday.

The Justice Ministry said that the rulings, against which they are appealing, do not demand Ukraine should pay any compensation.

"The Justice Ministry again emphasizes that there are no rulings of the European Court about the recovery of any money in favor of Yanukovych and his entourage from Ukraine. At the same time, in order to prevent any risks and manipulations, these procedural rulings were appealed in compliance with a proper procedure. The submitted appeals are aimed at ensuring the position and interests of Ukraine," the report says.

The ministry also said that the investigation of criminal cases against former President Viktor Yanukovych and his entourage in Ukraine continues.

"Ukrainian law enforcement agencies will be very pleased to personally hear the position of Viktor Yanukovych on the issues raised in each such case," the Justice Ministry said in a statement.

As reported, on March 28, 2016, former minister of justice of Ukraine Olena Lukash said that an EU court has obliged Ukraine to compensate claim costs in the amount of UAH 6.378 million to former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and two his sons – Oleksandr Yanukovych and Viktor Yanukovych (deceased) in the case on property sanctions imposed against them by the European Union.

Ukraine's Justice Ministry, for its part, refuted Lukash's statement on recovering court costs from Ukraine in favor of Yanukovych and his entourage. "There are no decisions of the European Court about the recovery of at least a penny, all the more UAH 6.3 million, in favor of Yanukovych and his entourage from Ukraine, as well as non-property decisions against Ukraine for the benefit of the specified persons," the ministry's press service said.

On April 8, 2016, the European Truth Internet publication reported referring to the written comments of a representative the EU Court of Justice, Balazs Lehoczki, said that Ukraine and representatives of ex-president Viktor Yanukovych and his sons did not reach an agreement on the amount of the compensation, Kyiv allegedly has to pay under the court ruling.
