Vira Savchenko returned to Ukraine - Ukrainian PresidentThe Ukrainian consul general to Rostov-on-Don has informed Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that Vira Savchenko, a sister of Ukrainian military aviator Nadia Savchenko convicted in Russia, has crossed the Russian-Ukrainian border and returned to Ukraine.

"PP [an abbreviation indicating messages written personally by Petro Poroshenko, as opposed to those posted for him by his aides]: the consul general in Rostov has just informed me that Vira Savchenko has crossed the Ukrainian border and is already on home turf," Poroshenko said in a message on his social media accounts on Thursday.

As Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's press service said, in the evening on April, 27 Savchenko was seized her passport near the Russian checkpoint and the car she and Ukrainian consul was in was blocked. Together with the Ukrainian consuls she managed to leave the checkpoint on the Russian side of Ukraine-Russia border. All next day Vira was at the Consulate General of Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don. She has got her passport back; consul managed to take it from Russians. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin knew about the situation and were involved in its settlement.
