As Ukraine, Georgia and the Baltic States protested against Russia's return to PACE, lawmakers with pro-Ukrainian views will be preparing the draft decisions on the appeal against Russia's authorities in the Assembly. The Monitoring Committee and the Regulations Committee of the PACE made the respective decision.
PACE Monitoring Committee appointed British lawmaker Roger Gale and Lithuanian MP Egidius Vareikis as the figures responsible for preparation of respective documents. Gale is known as the member of the Conservative Party who has been supporting Ukraine for a while; he is also an author of most of the Ukrainian amendments to the PACE resolution, which the Assembly passed on June 24.

At that, PACE Regulations Committee chose Lithuanian MP Egidius Vareikis to prepare the document regarding Ukraine's appeal. Vareikis is a well-known human rights defender who voted against the return of the Russian delegation.
Previously, PACE received two appeals from the Ukrainian and the Georgian delegations, as they blamed the reinstatement of Russia's authorities in the Assembly and respective changes in the sanctions mechanism against Russia. PACE would consider the appeals and announce its decisions in the afternoon of June 26.
