Trial over suspects in MH17 crash to begin on March 9, 2020 in The Hague

The trial over the suspects in the crash of MH17 Boeing will begin on March 9, 2020, at 10 a.m. in The Hague Court, as Interfax-Ukraine reported citing Head of Joint Investigation Group (JIG) Fred Westerbeke.
“We think that we will be able to pass the case to the court until the end of the year. The criminal process will take place in the court in The Hague, which will hold the sessions in terms of the enhanced security in the Judicial Complex of Schiphol…The court informed us that the criminal prosecution of the suspect will begin on March 9, 2020, at 10 a.m.,” he said.
Meanwhile, Westerbeke appealed to the suspects with the urge to be present during the trial and contact with the JIG until the process. However, he warned that “the trial will take place even if they make a decision not to be present”.

Earlier it was reported that the Prosecutor’s Office of the Netherlands will press charges on MH17 crash in Donbas in June 2014 against Igor Girkin (Strelkov), Sergiy Dubynsky, Oleg Pulatov and Leonid Kharchenko.
In addition, the relatives of MH17 tragedy victims held a protest in the Russian Embassy in the Hague. The protesters urged Russian authorities to accept the responsibility for Boeing 777 crash.
Boeing 777 of Malaysian Airlines, flight number MH17 was destroyed while performing a regular flight from the Netherlands to Malaysia in July 2014. The tragedy took place in the sky over the militant-held section of Donetsk region. All 298 people aboard deceased; most of the victims, 196, were Dutch, but there were citizens of another nine countries as well.

The governments of Australia and the Netherlands officially accused Russia of being behind the disaster.
