May 4, district courts in Rostov-on-Don and Rostov Oblast ruled that 24 arrested Crimean Tatars will remain in detention for another three months, until the middle of August. All detained citizens are the suspects in the so-called Hizb-Ut Tahrir case led by the Russian law enforcers; they are charged with he membership in this Islamist organization, which is banned in Russia. Krym.Realii reported that May 15.
All 24 are to stay behind the bars until August 15. 20 activists are staying at the remand center in Rostov-on-Don, another four are held at a detention center in the town of Shakhty, Rostov Oblast.

The defense team asked to appoint home arrest as the pre-trial restriction measure; the lawyers pointed out that the detained Crimean Tatars are citizens of Ukraine and political prisoners. However, the court still granted the prosecutors' motion, extending the detention period.
All sessions on this case were held behind the closed doors. Dozens of relatives of the detained Crimean Tatars were not allowed inside the session hall.
24 Crimean Tatars were detained in March 2019, after massive searches at their dwellings in the occupied Crimea. Russia's Federal Security Service, the FSB claimed they could be members of Hizb-Ut Tahrir.
