Poland to assist Ukraine in decentralization reform - Poroshenko

Poland to assist Ukraine in decentralization reform - PoroshenkoPoland will share its expertise in implementation of the decentralization reform with Ukraine, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

"We have worked out common approaches to the whole range of projects and very much appreciate the assistance offered by our Polish counterparts. First of all, this is assistance in the implementation of the Ukraine decentralization reform," Poroshenko told reporters following his talks with Polish President Andrzej Duda in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"We have agreed that Poland is ready to assist us both in the form of [providing us with] experts, who will be working with the Ukrainian government and municipal administrations, and by means of inviting heads of our local governments to Poland with the view of sharing experiences and demonstrating the access to programs [realized] by European foundations," Poroshenko said.

The Ukrainian side laid out the decentralization reform based on the Polish model that had proven to be effective, he said. In addition, Poland will give Ukraine support in the reform of Ukraine's taxation system and customs service in the context of efficient anti-corruption measures, Poroshenko added.

"We also agreed with Mr. President to realize a few border initiatives in order to open joint border-crossing points and invest funds, including those that the Polish government resolved to lend us (100 million euros)," Poroshenko said.
