Russia might try occupying Odesa, Romania over next several years, - Hodges

Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, the ex-commanding officer of U.S. troops in Europe, expressed confidence that there's a threat of a war with China over the next decade. Besides, there's a chance that in the next few years, Russia might try occupying Odesa and the territory of Romania. He said that at a security conference timed to the 20th anniversary of Czech, Hungarian and Polish membership in the NATO.
'The United States needs a very strong European pillar. I think in 15 years — it’s not inevitable — but it is a very strong likelihood that we will be at war with China', he said as quoted by Ceske Noviny.

The Lieutenant General admitted that NATO 'should demonstrate Russia its power'. He also urged Germany, one of the key NATO members to increase the defense expenditures. Hodges also added that terrorism poses a threat for many human lives; however, NATO member countries should be also keeping an eye on potential threats from Russia and China. He insisted the Alliance needs to bolster its opportunities in the Black Sea.

'This is the area where Russia has been executing the largest and the most powerful aggression. If the West does nothing to the annexation of Crimea, it is quite possible that Odesa would be the next city to be occupied - and, perhaps Romania as well', Hodges concluded.
