The 'Supreme Court' of Crimea decided to keep Crimean Tatar Edem Bekirov in detention until February 11. The 'jury' considered the appeal of the defense team. Crimean Human Rights Protection Group reported this on Thursday.
According to the decision, the detainee's restriction measure will remain unchanged.
'Lawyers Oleksiy Ladin and Islyam Velyaliyev stated that the detention of the convict was illegal, in the view of his health conditions; but the court kept the decision in rule', reads the message.
Bekirov joined the court session via video conference, with 'judge' Tymur Slezko chairing the session.
As we reported earlier, the Russian law enforcers detained Crimean Tatar Edem Bekirov at the entrance to the occupied Crimea from Chongar, as the Chairman of Mejlis of Crimean Tatars Refat Chubarov wrote on Facebook.

“On December 12, 2018, Ukrainian citizen, a Crimean Tatar Edem Bekirov was detained at the entrance to the occupied Crimea. He was born in 1961, he lives in Novooleksiivka, Kherson region. It is known that Edem was heading to Crimea to visit his 78-year-old mother and relatives,” the message says.
According to Chubarov, Berkirov was arrested during passport control on the territory controlled by the Russian law enforcers. Later, Chubarov noted that the detainee was taken to Russia’s Security Service office in the annexed Simferopol.
