DPRK and South Korea hold ceremony of railways unification

On Wednesday, December 26, North and South Korea held a ceremony of the symbolic unification of the railway systems of the two countries,
The ceremony started at Panmun Station in the North's border town of Kaesong at around 10 a.m. with high-ranking officials from the two Koreas on hand.

Officials from the United Nations and neighboring countries, including Russia, China and Mongolia, also attended the event that could be the start of an ambitious plan to connect the inter-Korean railway to the Trans Siberian Railway so as to create a transportation route from Korea all the way to Europe.
On April 27, Kim Jong-un
and Moon Jae-in met at Panmunjom border checkpoint. The historical handshake took place as the North Korean leader visited the neighboring country - for the first time in 65 years. During the talks, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced his intention to close the Punggye-ri nuclear test site. After the talks, the leaders of the two countries announced the signing of a peace treaty at the end of 2018, which would put an end to the war between the two countries. In particular, the heads of the states signed the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification on the Korean Peninsula.

Later DPRK canceled a meeting with the authorities of South Korea. The reason was the discontent of the North Korean side with military drills conducted by the United States and the Republic of Korea. Later, Kim Jong-un convened a military commission of the party for the first time in two years.
