Russia excludes possibility of releasing Ukrainian sailors until trial ends

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov claimed that the Ukrainian sailors
captured after shelling Russian ships near the Kerch Strait would remain in custody in Russia at least until the end of judicial procedures on them. He emphasized this while talking to reports after the OSCE Ministerial Meeting in Milan, Evropeiska Pravda reports.

Lavrov confirmed that Ukrainian consuls gained access to the prisoners of war and assured that the sailors feel good.
‘They are under investigation. The trial comes next after the investigation is over. They violated Russian and international law, invaded our territorial waters,’ Lavrov said.
He believes that the release of the sailors is impossible before the end of judicial proceedings. ‘We make decisions, when there will be court's decision,’ Lavrov stressed.

He added that any country would detain Ukrainian military vessels in a similar situation.
‘The United States ordered to shoot those who to cross their border. We don’t act like them,’ he said.
As we reported earlier, the coast guard ships of the Russian Navy acted aggressively against the ships of the Ukrainian Navy, which have been carrying out a scheduled transition from Odesa port to Mariupol port in the Sea of Azov.

‘Today, November 25, the ships of the Ukrainian Navy with two armored gunboats and a sea mule tugboat have been carrying out a scheduled transition from Odesa port to Mariupol port in the Sea of Azov. The intention to make the transition was informed in advance in accordance with international standards in order to ensure the safety of navigation. However, contrary to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Treaty between Ukraine and the Russian Federation on cooperation in the use of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait, the Russian coast guard ships - Sobol class patrol boat, Don border guard cruiser, Mangust class patrol boat and Suzdalets anti-submarine warfare ship performed blatantly aggressive acts against the ships of the Ukrainian Navy,’ reads the message.
