Poroshenko congratulates Patriarch Filaret on 23rd anniversary of enthronement

October 22 marks the anniversary of the enthronement of Patriarch Filaret, the incumbent Head of Ukraine's Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate. Ukraine's leader Petro Poroshenko congratulated him on this occasion, as his press office reported.
'The head of the state thanked Patriarch Filaret for long-lasting service and his efforts to create the united local Orthodox Church of Ukraine,' the authority said.  
Poroshenko also met with eparchs of Ukraine's Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate; the meeting was held at the Patriarch's residence in Kyiv.
On October 11, the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate supported that the autocephaly provision for Ukraine is prolonged. Also, it has officially approved Constantinople as Ukraine’s mother-church. Besides, the Synod lifted the anathema from Filaret, the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyivan Patriarchate, and Makariy, the Primate of Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. Filaret stated that a united Jubilee Bishops' Council would take place soon to create a unified Ukrainian local church.
In addition, the Ecumenical Patriarchate recognized Russia’s Orthodox Church annexation of Kyiv metropole in 1686.
