NASA reports warmest September on record

NASA reports warmest September on recordLast month was the warmest September in 136 years.

The temperature last month was just 0.004 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit) warmer than the previous record-breaking September in 2014, but still enough to make it the hottest September on record, according to NASA's monthly analysis of global temperatures.

Responding to the news, Gavin Schmidt, director of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, predicted that 2016 would be the hottest year since records began.

Sea levels are also believed to have risen more in the 20th century than previously estimated.
