Judge's copy of 'obscene' book up for auction

The copy of Lady Chatterley's Lover used by the judge who presided over its controversial obscenity trial is to be sold at auction next month.
The Penguin paperback copy of the DH Lawrence novel used by the Honourable Sir Lawrence Byrne in the famous 1960 trial is expected to sell for €15,000.
The edition, which features annotations by his wife, Lady Dorothy, highlighting the sexually explicit passages, will be sold in the damask bag she made to prevent press photographers getting shots of him carrying it.It will be sold alongside Lady Dorothy's list, on headed Central Criminal Court stationery, which itemised the risque exerts, and including her comments alongside, such as "love making" and "coarse", with the page number.

The judge's paperback edition of the racy novel is expected to fetch ?15,000 at auction
The novel tells the story of a passionate affair between a married aristocratic woman and her gamekeeper, often narrating their sexual encounters in explicit detail, which was considered scandalous at the time.
