Mrs Doubtfire to be turned into a musical

Mrs Doubtfire is to be turned into a Broadway musical.
Based on the 1993 comedy film - which starred the late Robin Williams in the title role - the stage show will be directed by four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks.

Robin Williams won a Golden Globe for his role in the film
It will tell the story of struggling actor Daniel Hillard, who disguises himself as Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire in order to see his children.Williams, who took his own life in 2014 aged 63, won a Golden Globe for the role.The film, which also starred Sally Field and Pierce Brosnan, also won a Golden Globe for best picture and an Oscar for best make-up.

Both a worldwide box office and critical hit, the film was an adaption of English novelist Anne Fine's book Alias Madame Doubtfire.John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick, who were nominated for Tony Awards for their work on the Shakespeare-themed musical Something Rotten!, will write the script for the show, while Kirkpatrick and his brother Wayne will write the music and lyrics.

The show's producers, Kevin McCollum and Bob Cohen, said preparing the show for the stage was a "pure joy", and described the story as "laugh-out-loud hilarious and extremely moving".The cast for the musical is yet to be announced.
