Graphic novel on Man Booker list for first time

By Bethany Minelle, entertainment reporter
For the first time a graphic novel features on the Man Booker Prize longlist.
Sabrina, by American writer and illustrator Nick Drnaso, tells the story of a missing girl and the hunt to find clues to her disappearance.

Drnaso, 29, uses deliberately simplistic drawings in his work - reminiscent of plane safety instructions - to bring to life his story of violence and fake news.In the novel, which British author Zadie Smith described as "a masterpiece", a hidden videotape holds an all-important clue. This is the first time the illustrated genre has been recognised by the prestigious award, which was established in 1969.Drnaso's debut graphic novel, Beverly, received the LA Times Book prize for Best Graphic Novel.
