"Shocking" restoration of decapitated baby Jesus statue

"Shocking" restoration of decapitated baby Jesus statue A statue of the baby Jesus in Canada was replaced with orange clay leaving parishioners stunned.

The statue that had been vandalised before has undergone restoration by replacing white stone statue's head went missing last year.

Heather Wise volunteered to fix the statue when she noticed the head of baby Jesus had been knocked off at St. Anne des Pins church in Sudbury, northern Ontario.

“I was so sad,” she told Sudbury.Com. “My feelings were hurt when I saw it, because I thought, ‘Who would do that?’ It’s just not a positive feeling to see that. I said ‘I’m an artist, I would like to fix it.’”

However, the result appeared not to be what people expected.

"It really is shocking to the eyes because of the big contrast in colour," Father Gerard Lajeunesse told CBC News.

“I wasn’t trained for this in seminary," he said.

Father Gerard Lajeunesse stressed that the new head – whose features are rapidly eroding in the rain – is just temporary.

“It’s a first try. It’s a first go. And hopefully what is done at the end will please everyone,” he said. “She did this out of the goodness of her heart.”
