M&S to train staff as data scientists in overhaul drive

Marks & Spencer plans to tool up its staff with data science skills to help the business survive the threat posed by online rivals.
The retailer will offer more than 1,000 workers data analytics training as part of an ongoing overhaul aimed at safeguarding the company’s future.
M&S will launch a retail data academy where staff can learn data analytics tools such as ‘R’ and ‘Python’ through a data fellowship scheme.
Delivered by IT education business Decoded, the course will be open to staff across the business, from store managers to visual merchandisers.
