Heathrow raises ?1bn to fund third runway expansion as Brexit looms

Heathrow Airport has secured funding for the next two years of its controversial expansion plans.
Almost ?1bn of debt has been raised in 2018 ahead of schedule, amid concerns the UK’s exit from the European Union next March could disrupt capital markets.
The proceeds will be used to develop Heathrow’s third runway and invest more widely in the country’s biggest airport.
Speaking as Heathrow announced 2.3pc growth in its revenues in the first half of the year, chief executive John Holland-Kaye said that ?160m would be spent in 2018 to put plans in place for the airport’s expansion.
