Ukraine's intl reserves amounted to $17.97 bn in June - StatsUkraine's international reserves at the beginning of July amounted to $17.97 billion, which is 2% more than a month earlier, the corresponding preliminary data have been posted on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

"The favorable situation in foreign markets allowed the National Bank to continue buying foreign currency to replenish international reserves without creating obstacles to the strengthening of the hryvnia," the NBU said.

In total, the National Bank bought $301.6 million in June, including $101 million through interventions with the request for a better rate, and sold $1.4 million. At the same time, there were no auctions for the sale of currency in June, foreign currency was sold through interventions at a single exchange rate to support the functioning of the interbank foreign exchange market during the recent large-scale cyber attack. Thus, the net forex purchase in June was $300.2 million.

The cost of reserves for servicing and repayment of public debt in foreign currency amounted to $5.8 million.

According to the NBU, as of July 1 the level of reserves covered 3.7 months of future imports and is sufficient to fulfill the obligations of Ukraine and the current operations of the government and the National Bank.
