Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has stressed on the importance of investing in science and a systematic approach to reforming the academic sphere in the country.
"The state should invest in science - this is an investment. But this investment must be successful. We have everything needed for this. Science and innovations will allow us to move forward and find the way out of serious problems and trials," Groysman said at a meeting with scientists on Monday, the press service of the government reported.
Groysman also called for the formation of a systemic view on reforming the academic sphere in Ukraine.
"Ukrainian science needs a qualitative dialogue today, including with the authorities. We need to answer the following questions: what resources do we need how will we use them, what kind of a system of cooperation should there be between the authorities, scholars and the Academy of Sciences, how can we measure cooperation - not just the amount of money we allocate to a particular industry?" the prime minister said.
Scholars said the system of funding science should be changed, as well as ensuring cooperation between business and science.
According to the press service, the meeting was attended by government officials, parliament deputies, members of Ukraine's national academies of sciences, representatives of higher educational institutions, enterprises and NGOs leaders.
