Marriott and Starwood merge makes world's largest hotel chainMarriott International Inc. completed its $13 billion acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. on Friday.

The merger creates the world’s largest hotel company with more than 1.1 million rooms and about 5,700 hotels in more than 110 countries.

The hotels' integration process links the guest loyalty programs and pledges to keep all 30 brands.

More than 1 out of every 15 hotel rooms around the globe belong to the newly merged chain.

Marriott Chief Executive Arne Sorenson said: “We think there are real advantages to size."

In an interview to the Associated Press Marriott CEO said: "We've got an ability to offer just that much more choice. A choice in locations, a choice in the kind of hotel, a choice in the amount a customer needs to spend."

Realization of Starwood started in April 2015.
